Receipt to CSV

Receipt to CSV turns a photo of any receipt into a spreadsheet-ready CSV file. It reads the store name, date, line items with prices, tax, and the total — the tedious typing you'd otherwise do by hand at expense-report or tax time.

When to use it

Use it for expense reports, tax preparation, budgeting, or reimbursing employees. It handles restaurant bills, grocery receipts, gas station slips, hardware store receipts — any printed receipt in reasonable condition. If you photograph receipts regularly, this tool plus a spreadsheet replaces the shoebox entirely.

How to use it

  1. Open Receipt to CSV in the portal and upload a photo of your receipt (JPG, PNG, or HEIC) or a scanned PDF.
  2. Wait a few seconds while the tool reads the image and extracts the fields.
  3. Review the extracted data on screen — store, date, each line item, subtotal, tax, total.
  4. Download the CSV. Each processing job counts as one document against your quota.

What the output looks like

The CSV has one row per line item with columns for the item description, quantity, unit price, and line total, plus header rows or columns carrying the store name, receipt date, subtotal, tax, and grand total. It opens directly in Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers.

Good to know

  • Photo quality decides accuracy. Lay the receipt flat, shoot straight down in good light, and fill the frame. Crumpled thermal receipts are the hardest — smooth them first.
  • Very long receipts (30+ items) work, but double-check the middle items — that's where misreads cluster.
  • Handwritten additions on a printed receipt (like a tip line) are often missed; add those manually in your spreadsheet.
  • Faded thermal paper that's sat in a hot car for a year may simply be unreadable — photograph receipts sooner rather than later.
  • Each receipt is one job. Photographing five receipts as one collage image gives worse results than five separate photos.
